How to Make Adobo Tofu – Vegan Adobo Style Recipe

Adobo Tofu Recipe by Filipino Vegan
Ingredients:
  • ½ kilo firm tofu, frozen overnight then thawed for a few hours
  • 3-4 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 4 cloves of garlic, peeled, crushed, and minced
  • Cooking oil

Braising Liquid:
  • ¼ cup soy sauce
  • 3 tablespoon vinegar
  • 1 ½ tablespoons brown sugar
  • ½ cup water
  • ¼ tablespoons cornstarch
  • 2-3 pieces bay leaves
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • Pinch of salt

Tips: Freeze and thaw the tofu twice to mimic the texture of chicken adobo.

Instruction:
  1. In a bowl, mix all the ingredients for the braising liquid; soy sauce, vinegar, brown sugar, water, cornstarch, bay leaves, pepper, and salt.
  2. Press out excess water from the tofu, then cut into one inch square or triangles.
  3. Using a separate bowl, coat the tofu with cornstarch.
  4. Heat a medium pan over medium heat and fill with enough oil to coverthe base of the pan.
  5. Once the oil is hot, fry the tofu until golden on all side.
  6. Lower the heat and add the garlic. Cook until the garlic is slightly golden .
  7. Pour the liquid into the pan, and mix well. Cook until the sauce gets thicker. Adjust seasoning to taste.
  8. Turn off the heat and serve hot with rice. end
